NRA BASICs of PISTOL SHOOTING INSTRUCTION:

This is a two-part course consisting of classroom and live fire sessions.  Students are instructed on the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude of becoming a Responsibly Armed American. Registration is for BOTH Part 1 and Part 2.

This course qualifies the participant in the Virginia requirements in application for a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) with your local court.

Part 1 is the 4 hour classroom portion of the NRA Basic Pistol Program, generally held from on a Thursday evening.  Primary focus is on firearm safety, firearm nomenclature and function, safe handling of firearms, and the foundational principles of shootiing.

Part II is the range qualification portion of the NRA Basic Pistol Program, held on the following Saturday from 1-5PM.  Primary focus is on practical application of the knowledge and skills as taught in the Classroom Session.  The live fire shooting qualification provides a certificate acceptable to the State of Virginia in application for a Concealed Handgun Permit to carry.

While appropriate for first time owners/users of firearms, more experienced individual will benefit in attending.

Cost of the program is $150 per person, or $250 per couple.

L.E.A.P.

L.E.A.P. is a custom program designed with the objective of helping you mentally transition from marksmanship and target shooting to become a Responsibly Armed American and adopt a Concealed Carry Lifestyle.  This is a classroom program only.

Discover the Legal, Ethical, Self-Awareness, and Practical implications of the Concealed Carry lifestyle to become a “Responsibly Armed American".  Based on the NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® course, we focuses on developing participants’ self-awareness of the potential risks of becoming victims of criminal activities.  The seminar teaches easy to understand methods you can use to increase your Situational Awareness, lessen your chances of a criminal confrontation, and understand the legal and ethical mindset equipping you for armed self-defense.

In the approximately four-hour program, you will get the tools you need to develop your own personal safety strategy and raise your awareness of potential risks of criminal intent.

Course length is approximately 4-5 hours.  When the schedules shows two (2) dates for one class it is split and conducted over two evenings. If so, you are registering for BOTH Wed & Thur evenings.

Registration is open to adults and teens over 12 yrs. of age, however all state and federal laws regarding personal carry of firearms is followed.
Cost of the program is $50pp. Program fee includes all course materials.

Our recommendation is this course be followed by taking our Defensive Shooting I & II programs covering defensive shooting principles and techniques.

Course Description:  Our Defensive Shooting I program exposes the student to defensive shooting techniques, utilizing the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home program.  It lasts 8 hours, consisting of two, four-hour sessions.  The first four hours is classroom based, with the second session is held at the our private range under the supervision of certified NRA instructors and will put into practice the classroom topics involving firearm self-defense within the home.

Preparation:  The course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable, state, federal or local law.  It is important that participants have sufficient maturity and life experiences to be able to assess various situations and make mature decisions.

Prerequisite: Participants must show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm to maximize what can be learned from this course.  Proof of shooting experience can be any one of the following:

  1. NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate.
  2. NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program (Pistol disciplines)
  3. Military DD214 with pistol qualification
  4. Possession of a valid Concealed handgun permit
  5. Pass the Pre-Course Assessment. (contact instructors)

You are expected to bring your own defensive firearm, a minimum of 50 rounds of appropriate ammunition (100 suggested) and an appropriate holster for your firearm.  Generally, we suggest you provide for any individual needs for food and drink.

Registration:     Online registration and PayPal payment is available on the Registration page.  Per the schedule, this program may be taught in two 4-hour sessions (weekday evening classroom + weekend range sessions). Registration is for BOTH sessions.
Cost of this class is $175pp and $300/couple

Course Description:   The course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable, state, federal or local law.  Our Defensive Shooting II course introduces students to the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude involved in safely, responsibly, and effectively employing a concealed handgun for self- defense, utilizing the NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home program.

This is an intensive course, as the student must learn and practice many diverse shooting skills to respond quickly and appropriately to the broad range of threats he or she may encounter outside the home.  Similarly, the student must learn and understand the unique safety and legal issues that apply when a concealed handgun is carried in public.  The course covers the legal ramifications of concealed carry, including who can legally carry a handgun, when concealed carry is and is not permitted, the legal and ethical ramifications when responding to a life-threatening encounter using a concealed handgun, and the legal, moral, emotional, and social aftermath of the use of deadly force outside the home.

This course is an intermediate level shooting course requiring students to have mastered safe gun handling and basic marksmanship skills prior to attending the course.

Course Content:   Defensive Shooting II is comprised a classroom session of 4-6 hours followed by a live fire session of 6 - 8 hours held over 2 or more days).  During the classroom session participants will learn the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations, and for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home. Participants will gain understanding of the legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, as they must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

The live fire session is held under the supervision of certified NRA instructors and will put into practice the classroom topics involving armed self-defense within the community.

PREREQUISITE:  Students must have completed the NRA Personal Protection inside the Home Course or pass a pre-course evaluation prior to attending this course. Contact the instructor for details.

Preparation:  For the live fire session participants must bring their defensive handgun, a suitable, strong side,  retention holster, and 200 rounds (minimum) of ammunition. We suggest you provide for any individual needs for food and drink.  During all day programs  a mid-day lunch break will be provided.

Registration:     Online registration and PayPal payment is available on the Registration page.  Per the schedule, this program is be taught in separate sessions (weekday evening classroom + weekend range sessions). Registration is for ALL sessions.  Cost of the program is $195pp or $375 per couple.

This is a condensed half day program created by The NRA as 1st Steps and combined with The National Shooting Sports Foundation's (NSSF) 1st Steps program.  While being conducted on the range, topics covered include those of safety and shooting fundamentals preparing you to take your 1st Shots.

This is an excellent opportunity for those completely new to (or even fearful of) the shooting sports. In a safe and straight forward manner our experienced NRA Certified instructors will make the experience pleasant and enjoyable for you.

Dates listed on our calendar are tentative based on pre-registrations. A minimum of 5 students are required. In addition, we offer this on a customized basis.  If you have a small group of friends, relatives, or neighbors, please contact us to arrange a session customized to your specific needs.

Please note - there are specific dates listed as LADIES ONLY.

Cost of this class is $75pp.  A firearm and ammunition will be provided at an additional cost of a $10 equipment and supplies fee if needed.

On occasion it’s enjoyable to gather together with your friends without male bravado overseeing your every move.  Understanding this perspective, our experienced instructors will customize a lady’s specific session exposing you to the fundamentals of pistol, rifle & shotgun shooting sports.
